WATCH: China Uses Gutter Oil From Recycled Sewage as Cooking Oil

Disgusting as it may sound and looked, it is true that China uses gutter oil from recycled sewage in their kitchen as one of the key ingredient in their stir fry. Watch the report here.

Since Chinese cuisine requires cooking oil in most of their dishes, the idea of using gutter oil from recycled sewage that contain fats and used cooking oil came to rise to of course reduce the expenses of some Chinese businessmen in the food industry.



Tons of gutter oil from recycled sewage is collected to be processed and refined in processing plants. Then, the product will be repacked and sold to black market at a cheaper price.

On the other hand, other countries use gutter oil for industrial purposes particularly in the production of biodiesel which can be used as fuel for aircrafts. Last march, 50-50 mix of gutter oil and jet fuel Hainan airlines successfully landed their aircraft to Beijing from Shanghai using the 50-50 formulation while in 2014, Boeing collaborated with a Chinese aircraft company to turn gutter oil into biodiesel.

On food contact application, reprocessed gutter oil is believed to bring negative effects in the body. Recycled oil contains carcinogens which may lead to cancer and other health problems.
That�s why it�s better to pay for more expensive yet healthy food than pay less to something that can cost you your health.
